Postnatal Depression
Having a baby is a life-changing event and is often stressful and exhausting. That can sometimes be a trigger for depression.
Postnatal depression can start at any time in the first year after given birth. And can often be over looked as the ''baby blues''. Baby blues can last around 2 weeks after given birth.
Postnatal depression is a very common type of depression that many mothers experience. It can develop gradually. Many women do not realise they are suffering. It is not your fault and can happen to anyone.
As well as hormonal changes there can be other factors leading to postnatal depression.
Some signs of postnatal depression may include difficulty looking after yourself and your baby. A lack of energy, trouble sleeping at night, withdrawal or having frightening thoughts. Difficulty concentrating, sadness, lack of enjoyment or low mood.
It is important to speak to someone as soon as possible for support, family, friends, your G.P or midwife. Postnatal depression can be very serious and may escalate. Potentially leading to adverse outcomes for mothers, infants and the wider family.
Postnatal holistic therapies to help you relax & unwind are available in your own home.

Try to ensure the atmosphere is quiet and calm for you and baby. Try to avoid any unnecessary distractions. Try, if possible to ensure your baby is not hungry.
